Grade 6 Arithmetic is an entry level course which will help to explain students the basic concepts of numbers and different operations between them – addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We have organized the content into a number of sub-topics (Integers, Factors & Multiples, Fractions, Decimals, Ratio& Proportion, Percentage) and students are strongly encouraged to enrol for all these chapters in order to develop a strong foundation in this area.

We provide theory, MCQs and assignments for each individual topic. Click on each topic to know more details.

Integers
Key topics include:

• Number Line
• Operations on Integers
• Absolute Value

As a part of this course, students will get to know different number types – counting, whole, integers, rational, irrational, real, imaginary and complex etc. Different properties will be covered – addition, subtraction, multiplication, division etc. BODMAS rule will also be discussed. Read more about this course.

Factors and Multiples
Key topics include:

• Factorization
• LCM & HCF –prime factorisation and division method
• HCF * LCM = Product of two numbers (sums based on this property)

As a part of this course, students will get to know factors for different number types – even, odd, prime, composite, co-prime, twin-prime etc. Read more about this course.

Fractions
Key topics include :

• Pictorial representation of fractions
• Proper, Improper, Mixed, Equivalent Fractions
• Arithmetical Operations on Fractions
• Comparison of fractions (no large complicated fractions)

As a part of this course, students will get to study arithmetical operations ( addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) on different types of fractions – Proper, Improper, Mixed, Equivalent Fractions. Read more about this course.

Decimals
Key topics include:

• Introduction to decimals
• Place values in context of decimal fractions
• Inter-conversion of fractions and decimals (no recurring decimals)
• Operations on Decimals
• Comparison of decimals
• Word Problems involving decimals on money, mass, length and temperature

As a part of this course, students will go through problems involving decimals on money, mass, length and temperature. Operations on decimals will cover addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, comparison etc. Read more about this course.

Ratio, Proportion & Unitary Methods
Key topics include:

• Introducing the concept of ratio – simplest forms, comparison of two ratios
• Introducing proportion as the equality of two ratios
• Recognize that two quantities are in direct proportions
• Use of Unitary methods (with direct variations only)
• Word problems on ratio and direct proportions

As a part of this course, students will go through different examples which will teach them to compare ratios, divide a certain quantity as per given ratio; solve fraction problems via the unitary method etc. Read more about this course.

Percentage
Key topics include:

• Expressing one quantity as the percentage of the other
• Simple problems (excluding profit/loss)

As a part of this course, students will learn to convert fractions into percentages (and vice versa), decimals into percentages (and vice versa). There will be a number of problems covering different real-life scenarios where they need to apply the concept of percentage. Read more about this course.
